Gallipoli Campaign
The British High Command planned to establish a warm water supply to Russia and force Turkey out of the war by forcing its way through the Dardenelles. However, the the British and French naval assault on the Turkish forts defending the Dardenelles ended in failure. As a result, a combined British, French and ANZAC amphibious assault was planned, where they were to seize the Dardenelles and capture the forts.
